Dr. Hasnain Dewji

Dr. Hasnain Dewji - Pediatric Dentist in Mission, Yellowknife and Whitehorse Dr. Dewji studied pharmacy before obtaining a Doctor of Dental Medicine degree at the University of British Columbia. He then practiced general dentistry for four and a half years before proceeding to the University of Illinois in Chicago to complete a two-year pediatric dentistry specialty training program. During his specialty training, he also completed a Master of Science.

Dr. Dewji is a licensed Certified Specialist in Pediatric Dentistry in BC and NWT, and a Fellow of the Royal College of Dentists of Canada in Pediatric Dentistry. The Royal College of Dentists of Canada is an organization that ensures high standards of specialization in the dental profession and recognizes properly trained dental specialists through comprehensive qualifying exams. Dr. Dewji also became a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry after completing all the qualifying exams.

Outside of the office, Dr. Dewji was a clinical assistant professor of Faculty of Dentistry and actively engaged in teaching dental students at the University of British Columbia, and has won the best part-time teaching award in 2008 and 2010. He also gives lectures to various dental study clubs and dental societies.

Volunteering

Dr. Dewji is involved in volunteer dental work throughout the world. He has led dental groups to Peru, Nicaragua, and Honduras through Kindness in Action. In 2009 and 2010 he traveled to war-torn Iraq to do dental work in a school for orphans, and to Kashmir, the disputed area between India and Pakistan, again to do volunteer dental work.

In 2010 Dr. Dewji established Global Kindness Foundation (GKF), a Canadian-based registered charity, whose explicit aim is to sponsor dental optical and medical missions worldwide. Over the past years GKF has sponsored dental, medical, optical and hearing camps in Peru (5), Iraq (20), Tanzania (6), Kenya (2), India (2), Haiti, Cambodia, Syria, and Afghanistan. GKF has also set-up a permanent clinic in Lucknow India to treat children in a charity school.

Personal Life

Dr. Dewji and his wife have four boys and a girl, and two lovely grandchidren which keep them very busy. Besides enjoying family life, Dr. Dewji is an avid crossfitter, badminton and floor hockey player.


Dr. Kanu Priya Grewal

Dr. Kanu - Pediatric Dentist in Mission, Yellowknife and Abbotsford Dr. Kanu brings to us her education and experience from various parts of the world. She started her career in dentistry in India with obtaining her Bachelor of Dental Surgery in 2005, followed by a 3 years pediatric dentistry speciality training and a Master’s in dental surgery. She practiced in Northern India as a pediatric dentist, providing comprehensive oral care to children and volunteering with various organizations to provide dental care to the underserved population for three years before moving to Vancouver with her husband in 2013.

She then obtained her Doctor of Dental Surgery from the University of Texas Health Sciences and Center, San Antonio, where she graduated with teaching honours. She was inducted into the prestigious Omicron Kappa Upsilon Dental Honor Society and also received the Esthetic Dentistry Award.

Following her passion for pediatric dentistry, and in pursuit of excellence she attended Texas A&M College of Dentistry for a Pediatric dentistry residency program. Here she gained extensive clinical and emergency training at Children’s Medical Center and at Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for children by providing dental care to a variety of children including those with special health care needs. Dr. Kanu was involved in research work during her residency and her research topic “Assessing dental needs for Children with Special Health Care Needs to establish a transitional dental training program” was published in one of the accredited dental journals. Dr. Kanu has volunteered with underserved populations in various parts of India, and been on dental Mission trips to El Paso, Texas. She enjoyed her two-week experience providing dental care at the Indian Health Service Dental clinic in Omaha, Nebraska and learned a lot from this experience.

Personal Life

Outside the office, Dr. Kanu enjoys travelling, trying new restaurants and different food cuisines with her high school sweetheart- her husband. She was a state level table tennis player. She loves to dance and refine her skills on the Indian classical dance training that she received growing up.

Vancouver is home for Dr. Kanu and her husband and they are excited to serve the community here and explore more of the west coast.


Dr. Janice Duong

Dr. Janice Duong - Pediatric Dentist in Mission, Yellowknife and Whitehorse Dr. Duong studied sciences with honours in physiology and a minor in commerce prior to obtaining a Doctor of Dental Medicine degree at the University of British Columbia. During her final year of her degree, she was selected as both the Dental Undergraduate Society President and the class valedictorian. Following graduation, she practiced general dentistry in Coquitlam for two years before proceeding to the University of Washington/Seattle Children’s Hospital to complete her Pediatric Dentistry specialty training program as well as her Master of Science degree. Dr. Duong also served as chief resident during her specialty training where she trained in all different aspects of pediatric dentistry including trauma management, behaviour management, the medically complex clinic for children and adolescents with special health care needs, the autism clinic, and the sedation clinic.

Dr. Duong is a part-time Affiliated Clinical Faculty at the University of Washington’s Center for Pediatric Dentistry and a part-time Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of British Columbia’s Faculty of Dentistry. She is a clinical instructor for pediatric dental residents and pre-doctoral dental students both at the University of Washington and at the University of British Columbia. She was awarded the Part-time Faculty Teaching Award in 2015 at UBC by the dental students. She is a board-certified Fellow of the Royal College of Dentists of Canada (FRCDC) in Pediatric Dentistry as well as a board-certified Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry.

Dr. Duong enjoys traveling with her husband as well as volunteering abroad on dental mission trips to underserved countries such as Peru, Cambodia, and Kenya. She has very much enjoyed teaming up with Dr. Dewji in Global Kindness Foundation trips to do volunteer dental work throughout the world.

Personal Life

Outside of the office, Dr. Duong enjoys traveling, skiing, art, music, and dance, especially having grown up with extensive training in music and ballet. She also enjoys spending time with her close family and friends. Dr. Duong is a native of BC and loves everything that the west coast has to offer. She is excited to serve her own community.
